Artist Statement
Itzhak Beery creates sacred objects of art that investigate the complex balance, interpersonal connection, and interdependency between human’s behavior and their environment. He uses natural materials, handmade cotton paper, found objects, and images of the native landscapes of his childhood in Israeli Kibbutz Beit Alpha, including Mount Gilboa, a lone tree, barbwire fences, and fields. Itzhak lets time and weather take their toll on his work to make visible relationships between the permanency and transience of art and the cycles of life.
Itzhak’s work has been exhibited since 1977 in groups and solo shows in Israel, the US, Korea and the Philippines. His work is in the collection of the American Museum in Britain, and in other private collections. Since 1995 he has been a practicing shamanic healer and teacher internationally. Itzhak is the author of three books. He lives in New York City.
