LA LIMPIA – (Pakarinkapak Yachay) THE QUECHUA HEALING METHODS

I am often asked about La Limpia, the ancient Andean ritual of energy cleansing and rejuvenation, which I have both learned and performed. Shamans use this practice to maintain physical, psychological, and spiritual well-being.
La Limpia is typically performed when individuals experience illness, emotional distress, depression, or bad luck in relationships, business, jobs, or other aspects of life.
The goal of La Limpia is to balance and clear the egg-shaped energy field, known as the illuminating body, that surrounds and interacts with our physical body, which can be affected by negative energies. During the ceremony, each element and tool used carries both spiritual symbolism and scientific explanation.
Our energy field can be contaminated by traumas, memories, attachments, ancestral connections, and negative energies. It can also be polluted by entering negative geographic locations or by energy sent intentionally or unintentionally, such as anger, curses, envy, bad air, energy attachments, and spirit possession. Negative energy is heavy and, if not removed, can sink into our skin and penetrate deep into our tissues, organs, and bones. Shamans believe that this contamination is responsible for all sicknesses and misfortunes. Clearing or extracting these old and negative energies brings in a surge of positive energy, allowing for new clarity and true healing.

Here are the phases of the La Limpia healing ceremony:
1. Greetings: Welcoming the client and performing an energetic scan.
2. Diagnostic and Divination: Using a candle, egg, and palm readings, we identify the client's source of illness or misfortune and decide on the appropriate process.
3. Consultation (Platica): Discussing the issues raised by the readings to understand the client’s life and cultural belief system.
4. Energy Removal and Extraction: Using trago–sugar cane rum, green leaf branches or a dry leaf broom, plants/herbs, blowing fire, Smudge/smoke, and rubbing or extracting with eggs and sulfur.
5. Rejuvenation: Substituting the old and stale negative energies with new positive light energies by blowing Aqua Florida–flower water cologne– and using red and white carnations, roses, and flowery aromatic oils.
6. Protection: Sealing the physical body with volcanic healing stones, cord cutting with Chunta spears, and tobacco smoke blessings.
7. Harmonizing Vibrations: Using a bell and other instruments over the physical body.
8. Calling Back Spirit: Playing a ceramic ocarina melody behind the person's neck.
9. Embrace: Offering a healing hug, heart to heart.
10. Candle Blowing: Releasing stored bad energy in the candle's wax to the universe with a personal prayer.
11. Final Consultation: Discuss the client’s experiences and visions and prescribe various rituals, ceremonies, baths, and special diets to be followed after the ceremony and at home.
